Aligning Leadership with God's Purpose

How to turn your faith into action, aligning your work and leadership with God's purpose. But here's the truth.

Success with a purpose is exhausting. When you don't know your God given, calling. It's easy to get distracted by the noise of the world. Chasing what looks like success, but leaves you feeling unfulfilled. Today we'll be talking about how to discover your God-given purpose and align your leadership or business ventures with his plan for your life. Because when you understand your calling. Everything changes. You gain clarity, confidence, and resilience to [00:01:00] persevere through life's challenges. And more importantly, you begin to lead in a way that glorifies God and impacts others. So let's dive in.

Now, before we get into practical strategies for discovering your calling.

Biblical Foundation for Discovering Your Calling

Let's lay a solid biblical foundation. As Christian leaders, it's important to understand that discovering your calling isn't just a motivational idea. It's rooted in scripture. God's word shows us again and again that he has a plan and purpose for us.

Key Scriptures on Purpose and Calling

Let's start by looking at three key scriptures that speak directly into the idea of calling and purpose.

First. Jeremiah 29 11. It's one of the most well-known verses on purpose. And my all-time favorite. Which says for, I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future. Now I've quoted this one. So many [00:02:00] times my kids gave me a water bottle with this verse imprinted on it. Now this versus often quoted as a promise of good things. And while that's true, we have to remember the context. God spoke these words to the Israelites while they were in exile during one of the darkest periods of their history. They were discouraged, uncertain about their future and wondering if God had abandoned them. But God's message to them was clear. I know the plans I have for you. Even in the midst of uncertainty, God had a plan to give them hope in a future. And that same promise applies to us today. What does that mean for us as leaders? It means that even when you face challenges in your career, your business or your leadership journey, God's plan for you.

Hasn't changed. He's still working behind the scenes to guide you toward your colleague. It's up to us to trust him, seek his guidance. And align our plans [00:03:00] with his purpose. The next scripture I want to highlight is Ephesians two 10, which says for, we are God's handiwork created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. I love this verse because it reminds us of two powerful truths. One we are God's handiwork.

Now think about that for a moment. We are neatly crafted by God like a masterpiece. You're not an accident, a random collection of talents or the result of your upbringing, our home environment. God designed you with specific gifts, passions, and abilities for a reason. Secondly God has prepared. Good works for you to do. Before you were even born.

God had a purpose in mind for you. There are people only you can serve. There are problems only you can solve. Your leadership matters because God [00:04:00] created you to make an impact. And when I reflect on this truth, I'm humbled to know God creator of the universe. He wants to work through me to accomplish more than I could ever do on my own.

Practical Application of Biblical Truths

The practical application here is to ask yourself, A couple of questions. First M I living out the good works.

God has prepared for me. And then am I using my gifts in a way that serves others and honors God. Too often we get caught up in the world's definition of success, chasing titles, promotions, financial rewards. Nine months confess. This is to often define my journey. Even as a Christian leader. We are not immune. But this first reminds us that God's definition of success is about doing the good works.

He has prepared for us. And that's where true fulfillment comes from. The final scripture I want to share is Proverbs [00:05:00] 1921, which says many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails.

This first hits home. For a lot of leaders. And entrepreneurs, doesn't it. If you're anything like me, you've probably made a lot of plans in your life. You've set goals, creative strategies worked hard to achieve them. But how often have you stopped to ask? Do my plans aligned with God's purpose. And Proverbs 1921. Reminds us that it's God's purpose that will ultimately prevail. We can make all the plans we want, but if they're not aligned with God's, will they won't lead to lasting success.

Now that doesn't mean we shouldn't plan. In fact planning is an essential part of leadership, but it means we need to hold our plans loosely. And be willing to adjust when God redirects us. Let me share a book recommendation as [00:06:00] all leaders should be avid readers. John Beckett, the chairman of the R w Becket corporation.

Alini manufacturer of oil burners integrated his Christian faith into his business practices by emphasizing integrity. Quality and a caring work environment. Now in his book, loving Monday. Succeeding in business without selling your soul. He shares his journey of integrating Christian faith and business practices. Drawing from personal experiences, he illustrates how aligning work with spiritual beliefs can infuse meaning. And purpose into one's professional life. Back at emphasizes principles, such as integrity and compassion and service demonstrate that success in business doesn't require compromising one's values. The book serves as a guide for individuals seeking to harmonize their faith with their work. Offering insights into creating a values driven workplace where [00:07:00] employees feel valued and motivated.

Reflecting on God's Plan and Your Leadership

Now I want to, just before I move on, share a couple of takeaways from these verses that you can apply to your leadership and business. First God has a plan for you even in seasons of uncertainty.

So just like the Israelites in exile, you may not always see the full picture, but God's plan is still at work. Trust in his timing. Secondly you are uniquely created to do good works, your gifts, talents, and experiences. Aren't random. They're part of God's designed for your life. And finally God's purpose will always prevail. You can make plans, but true success comes from aligning those plans with God's will. When you ground your leadership in biblical truths. You gain a sense of peace and confidence.

You're no longer chasing after what the world says is important. Instead you're pursuing what God says is important and that's what truly matters. [00:08:00] Before we move on, though. I want to challenge you to reflect on these three scriptures this week. Ask yourself. Am I seeking God's plan for my life, or am I relying on my own? Am I using my gifts to do the good works.

God has prepared for me. And our, my business and leadership decisions aligned with God's purpose. Now if the answer is no, don't worry. This episode is all about helping you take practical steps, discover and align your leadership with God's purpose.

Steps to Discover Your God-Given Purpose

Let's move on to the next section where we'll talk about the three dimensions of how purpose impacts your leadership business. Okay.

So let's talk about, know how knowing your purpose gives you clarity, resilience, and the ability to seize those God ordained opportunities he has in store for you. So let's stay with me for a moment.

Identifying Your God-Given Purpose

First how to identify your God given [00:09:00] purpose. Now let's get into one of the most important parts of this episode. How do you actually discover your God given purpose? This isn't always a straightforward process and it requires intentional effort. On your part. But the good news is that God doesn't leave us to figure it out on our own. He guides us through scripture. Prayer. And life experiences. There are four practical steps to help you identify your calling.

And I encourage you to take notes or maybe revisit this part of the episode when you have time to reflect.

Number one. Prayer and seek God's guidance. First and most important discovering your purpose begins with prayer. As Christians, we believe that God has already mapped out a plan for our lives, but to walk in that plan, we have to seek his guidance. So let's look at a few scriptures to back that up. Proverbs three. [00:10:00] Verse five and six says trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean, not on your own understanding, but in all your ways, submit to him and he will make your path straight. Also in James. Chapter one verse five. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God. Who gives generously to all without finding fault.

And it will be given to you. Notice that both scriptures emphasize us asking. And trusting God to reveal the right path. That's where it starts with humanity and surrender too often, we try to force our way into rules, careers, or business ventures, because they seem like good opportunities. But if we haven't prayed about it, we may end up pursuing something that's not aligned with God's plan.

So here's a practical tip. Make prayer, a regular part of your decision-making process. When you're unsure about your next step, take time to [00:11:00] sit with God, ask questions like Lord. What have you created me to do? What areas of my life do you want me to serve in. And am I walking in alignment with your will? And here's the key. Be patient. God's answers often come through scripture. Quiet moments in prayer or sometimes a wise counsel. From a trusted mentor. Secondly reflect on your unique gifts and passions.

The second step is. To reflect on your natural gifts and passions. And God has equipped each of us with unique strengths and talents. And these gifts are often clues to our purpose. So let's go back to Ephesians chapter two in verse 10. For we are God's handiwork. Created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. That first tells us that God has prepared specific works for [00:12:00] us. And he's given us the skills and abilities.

We need to carry them out. So we've got to take a moment. Think about these questions. What are my natural strengths?

What are the things that people consistently come to me for advice or help with?

What activities bring me joy and fulfillment and what tasks feel effortless to me?

Even when they're difficult for others these are often indicators of your calling, for example. Maybe you have a gift of teaching and encouraging others.

Now that's a sign that you're meant to lead to coach or mentor, or maybe you're passionate about solving problems and coming up with creative solutions that could point to a calling in entrepreneurship or. Leadership.

So here's a practical app. At exercise for you to do.

Tico dot journal and create two columns in one column. Write down. Your natural gifts that [00:13:00] come to mind in the other column. Right down the things you're really passionate about. Then look at, look for the connections between your natural gifts strengths. And the things you're really passionate about, the things that give you joy. You'll look like we see a pattern that points to your God given purpose.

Next, you got to look at your life experiences. God doesn't waste anything, not even the difficult seasons we go through. In fact, your life experiences, both good and bad are often the very things God uses to prepare you for your calling. Let's look at the story of Joseph in the Bible. Remember him. Joseph had a dream at a young age that he would one day be a leader. But before that dream came to pass, he faced betrayal, slavery, false accusations, and imprisonment. Yet through it all, God was preparing him to become the second in command in Egypt. And save [00:14:00] countless lives during a famine. So now think about your own life experiences.

How has God worked through your story? Have you gone through challenges that taught you resilience and empathy? Have you experienced a victory that showed you what you're capable of? Have you faced a failure that redirected you towards something better? Your purpose is often hidden in your past experiences.

The practical exercise that, that you could do next. Is that take time to write down some of those significant life experiences. Both positive and negative and then ask yourself. What lessons did I learn from these experiences? How has God used these experiences to shape me? How can I use what I've been through to serve others? Remember even the hardest seasons of your life can be used for God's glory.

The final step is to ask the right questions. Sometimes we get stuck [00:15:00] because we're asking the wrong questions like these, which I remember asking myself early in, on in my career. What career will make me the most money. Or, and what's the fastest way to achieve success. And instead we need to shift our focus to questions that reveal our purpose. Such as what problem am I passionate about solving? Because every calling involves solving a problem, ask yourself. What issue in the world breaks my heart. What need do I feel compelled to meet? Next. Ask, what do I feel? Called to serve. Your purpose is always connected to people is not about self. Promotion it's about serving others. Maybe you're called to serve young leaders, single parents, small business owners, or people in your local community.

They're like, how can I use my gifts to glorify God in my work? Your work, whether it's in leadership, [00:16:00] business ministry. Should ultimately glorify God. So ask yourself. Am I using my gifts to build his kingdom. Or am I chasing personal success? And here's another practical tip. Write down your answers to these questions. And then review them regularly. You're calling may evolve over time, but these questions will help you stay aligned with God's purpose. And actually to help you, I have also included a. Worksheet with all of the questions that I'm sharing in this episode. That would be helpful for you to download after the episode is done and you'll find the link in the show notes.

Let's recap. To summarize. Here's the four step process to identify your God given purpose.

Number one. Pray and seek God's guidance. Start with prayer and then ask God to reveal this plan for your life. He promises. He will answer that prayer. [00:17:00]

Secondly reflect on your unique gifts and passions. Your strengths and passions, because they're the clues to your purpose.

Thirdly, look at your life experiences. God uses story to shape your calling. So think about your story. Write it out. And then reflect on it. And fourthly asked the right questions. Focus on solving problems, serving others. All for glorifying God. So discovering your purpose takes time and it's a journey. But when you commit to seeking God's plan for your life, he will guide you.

Remember. You were created for good works that God prepared in advance for you to do. You're calling matters. And the world needs what God has uniquely placed inside you.

Living Out Your Purpose in Leadership and Business

Now we're talking about what it looks like to actually live out your purpose and leadership and business.

So just stay with me for this last part.

Once you've identified your God-given purpose. [00:18:00] The next step is to live it out. And that's where the real work begins. Purpose is not something. You simply discover once and forget about. It's something you live out every day through your decisions, your actions and how you lead others. Many people assume that once you they've discovered their purpose, everything will suddenly fall into place. But living out your purpose requires intentionality, courage, and consistency. So let's break this down into three key areas where you can live out your purpose. Your career. Maybe entrepreneurial ventures and your leadership.

Let's start with career decisions. For many people, their job or career path feels disconnected from their deeper purpose. They're clocking in and out doing work that feels on inspiring and wondering if there's more to life than just earning a paycheck. Here's the truth. If you, your work isn't aligned with your purpose. You'll eventually feel [00:19:00] burned out frustrated and unfulfilled. Making career decisions with purpose doesn't mean you need to quit your job to Mauro. Or make a drastic change overnight.

It starts with evaluating your current role and ask yourself some key questions. Such as does my current role allow me to use my God-given gifts and talents.

Am I making a positive impact on the people I'm surfing. And is there an opportunity to glorify God in what I do? If the answers to those questions is no. It might be time to consider a pivot. But that doesn't always mean leaving your job. Sometimes it's about changing how you approach your work. So here's a practical tip for you. Take time to evaluate your current brawl. Ask yourself, if it aligns with your purpose. And if it doesn't what changes. Can you make to bring more purpose into your life? It could be starting a new project. And [00:20:00] mentoring others, or even just shifting your mindset to see your work as a way to serve others and build experience. Secondly.

Purpose-Driven Business

Purpose. Needs to also include any entrepreneurial ventures we may want to. Entertain. Many of you listening are business owners and you're thinking about starting a business.

Here's something you need to know. Purpose driven businesses perform better. Why. Because when your business is aligned with your purpose, it's not just about making money. It's about making a difference. As entrepreneurs, it's easy to fall into the trap of chasing revenue and growth at any cost. But a business that isn't built on a solid foundation of purpose we'll eventually collapse.

Creating a Mission Statement

How do you build a purpose driven business? It starts with creating a mission statement that reflects your calling. A purpose driven mission statement answers three key questions. Number one, [00:21:00] what problem am I solving? Number two, who am I serving? And number three, how does this work?

Glorify God. Let me give you an example. There's a company called sweet water. One of the largest musical instrument and audio equipment retailers in the us. The founder, Chuck sewer rack. Built the company on the principle of serving customers with integrity, honesty. And a servant's heart. He didn't just want to sell products.

He wanted to make a positive impact on musicians' lives. That purpose driven mindset is one of the reasons Sweetwater is so successful today. So ask yourself. Does not my business reflect my. Values. And M I using my business to serve others and glorify God. One more practical tip. For the entrepreneurs who are listening.

A mission statement for your business that reflects your [00:22:00] purpose. It doesn't have to be complicated. Start with just a simple statement that answers the three questions I mentioned earlier. And then let that mission guide your decision. Whether you're launching a new product, hiring a new team member or deciding which clients to take on, ask yourself. Does this align with my mission?

Leadership with Purpose

Let's talk about leadership. Living out your purpose as a leader means leading with integrity, empathy, and a servant's heart. As leaders we're responsible for more than just tasks and goals. We're responsible for the people we lead. And when we lead with purpose, we inspire others to discover their own Cali. Here's the thing. Leadership isn't about being the loudest voice in the room or having all the answers. It's about service.

It's about using your influence to help others grow, succeed, and find their own purpose. One of the best examples of purpose [00:23:00] driven leadership in the Bible is Jesus washing his disciples feet in John 13. Think about that for a moment. The son of God, the king of Kings creator of the universe. Took on the role of a servant to teach his disciples.

What true leadership looks like. Jesus said, I have sent you an example that you should do as I have done for you. That's what purpose driven leadership is all about. Leading by example, with humility and love. How do you lead with purpose? Here are three tips. One regularly revisit your purpose. As a leader, it's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind. And lose sight of your bigger purpose mission. Make it a habit to revisit your purpose regularly.

Ask yourself, am I aligned with my calling?

Secondly lead with integrity. Purpose driven leaders lead with integrity, even when it's hard. That makes [00:24:00] decisions. They make stop. They make decisions that honor God, even if it costs them. Something. And sometimes it might cost you everything.

Thirdly, invest in others. Purpose driven leaders invest in the growth of their team. They mentor and courage and empower others to discover their calling. How do you craft your leadership purpose? Here's an exercise you could do this week.

Ask yourself, these three questions. What is my calling as a leader.

Who has God placed in my life to serve and influence. And thirdly, how can I glorify God through my leadership? Write it down and keep it somewhere. You'll see it regularly. Let it guide your leadership decisions. For example, your purpose statement might be something like as a leader. My purpose is to empower others, to grow and thrive using my God-given gifts to serve with humility, integrity, and love.

[00:25:00] Once you have your statement, share it with someone you trust a mentor, a colleague. Your spouse or a friend, accountability is key to living out your purpose.

So living out your purpose requires intentionality, whether it's in your career, your business or your leadership, make decisions that align with God, your God given, calling. Remember your purpose. Isn't just about you. It's about making an impact on the people you serve and glorifying God in all you do. So let's recap what we've covered. We talked about how purpose gives clarity. How it anchors you in your challenges and how it helps you recognize God ordained opportunities. Now we've taken it a step further. To see how you can actively live out your purpose in your career, business and leadership. Remember. Leadership.

Isn't just about achieving goals. It's about [00:26:00] serving others. Living with integrity and using your influence to build something that glorifies God. Not just building your bank account.

So as we're coming into the closing section of this. Podcast today.

Benefits of Knowing Your Purpose

I want to talk about the benefits of knowing your purpose.

When you live and lead from a place of purpose, it transforms the way you approach challenges, decisions, and opportunities. So here are four benefits to knowing your purpose. First resilience. Leadership and entrepreneurship are not for the faint of heart. They will, there will be setbacks, failures, even moments of doubt.

How do you keep going when things get hard? The answer is resilience and resilience comes from knowing your purpose. Remember the story of Joseph in the Bible, he went through unimaginable hardships. Being betrayed by this brothers. Sold into slavery. [00:27:00] Wrongfully imprisoned. But through it all, he remained resilient because he knew God had a plan for his life.

He trusted that his purpose was greater than his present circumstances. Joseph's story shows us that when you know you're calling you can endure challenges because you understand that God is still at work, even in the hardest moments. So when you're facing a challenge in your leadership or business, Pause. Remind yourself of your why and ask. Why did God call me to this work? And secondly, who am I serving through my leadership or business in the face of this challenge?

When your, why is grounded in purpose? It strengthens your resolve. Secondly confidence. Purpose helps you make decisions with clarity and conviction. One of the biggest challenges facing leaders is decision-making. We're constantly making choices [00:28:00] from small day-to-day decisions to big life changing ones.

And let's be honest. The decision fatigue is real. It's easy to second. Guess yourself, or get stuck in analysis paralysis.

But when you're clear on your purpose, decision-making becomes much easier. Purpose acts as a compass, guiding you towards choices that align with God's plan for your life.

Let me share a real life personal example. I once worked with a Christian speaker and nonprofit leader who struggled with saying yes to too many opportunities. Every time someone came to her with a new idea, opportunity or personal need. She felt obligated to take it on. But once you took the time to reflect on her purpose, she realized that many of those opportunities were distractions. They didn't align with the mission God had given her. Once she had that clarity, she began making decisions with [00:29:00] confidence. Saying yes to the right things and no to the distractions. She now is an international speaker. An inspirational trainer and has an ongoing role and a reality TV show focusing on how overcoming physical challenges can lead to life-changing experiences.

So when you face a tough decision, ask yourself, does this align with my purpose? And is this something God has called me to do? Or is it just a distraction? Having clarity in your calling helps you make decisions that are aligned with your values and goals. Thirdly fulfillment. Purpose brings that deep satisfaction in your work. Let me ask you. Are you truly fulfilled in the work you're doing today? Many people, chase success, promotions, bigger paychecks recognition. Thinking that those things will bring some fulfillment. But here's the truth. Success without purpose will [00:30:00] always leave you feeling empty. Fulfillment comes from knowing that your work has meaning. And that it's making a difference in the lives of others. Think about the apostle Paul. He faced countless hardships, shipwrecks, imprisonment, persecution. But he never gave up on his mission. Why. Because he was deeply fulfilled in his purpose. He knew he was doing exactly what God had called him to do. And when you live out your God, given, calling you experienced that kind of a fulfillment. You wake up each day, knowing that your work matters. You find joy in serving others and glorifying God through your leadership. So if you're feeling unfulfilled in your current work, Take some time to reflect on your purpose.

And again, Ask yourself. What work. Brings me the most joy and meaning. And how can I align my current role or business with my colleague? Finally impact [00:31:00] purpose enables you to make a meaningful difference. Knowing your purpose allows you to make that lasting impact. When you lead from a place of purpose, your influence extends beyond your immediate circle. You're not just focused on personal success.

You're focused on serving others and leaving a legacy. Think about it. Jesus himself led with purpose. His mission was clear. To bring salvation to the world. Every decision he made every person he interacted with. Was driven by that purpose and the impact of his leadership is still felt today. As a leader or entrepreneur, your purpose driven impact can ripple outward as well.

When you align your work with God's calling, you're not just building a career or a business, you're building something that changes lives.

Think about someone like Chick-fil-A. Founder true at Kathy. His business. Wasn't just about selling chicken sandwiches, although they're [00:32:00] amazing. It was built on a mission to glorify God and positively influenced people. The impact of that purpose driven leadership is seen not only in the company's success, but in the lives of employees and customers around the world. So ask yourself. What legacy do I want to really leave? How is my work impacting those I lead and serve. Because when you're clear on your purpose, you'll recognize that your leadership isn't just about tasks.

It's about transforming lives. So remember the four benefits of knowing and discovering your purpose. The resilience you'll have the strength to endure challenges. Confidence you'll have the capacity to make decisions with clarity and conviction. Fulfillment. You'll experience, deeper satisfaction in your work. And impact you'll make a meaningful difference in the lives of those you lead and serve. So living. And leading from a place of purpose [00:33:00] changes, everything.

It gives you that strength to keep going. When things get tough. The confidence to make the right decisions, the joy of meaningful work. And the ability to make a lasting impact.

Remember the whole purpose. Isn't just a motivational concept. It's a biblical principle that God has given us to guide our lives. And when you align your leadership or business with God's purpose, you're stepping into the life he designed for you. Let's stick with me just for a moment.

Practical Steps to Discover Your Purpose

I'll give you a practical challenge to help you start discovering your purpose today.

We've covered a lot today about discovering your God-given calling and aligning your leadership and business ventures with his purpose. But here's the thing. All this knowledge won't make a difference unless you take action. So here's the challenge for you this week? Take intentional time to reflect on your calling. Don't rush this process. Is that a time to [00:34:00] pray journal? And ask God to reveal his purpose for your life. And I'm just going to give you a quickly, the three step process that I've used. Prayer is the most important part of discovering your purpose. So ask God. These three simple questions. What have you called me to do? Who have you called me to serve? And what steps do you want me to take right now? And then perhaps the hard part. Be still. And just listen. God speaks to us in many ways through scripture, through other people. And through it, the. Through the quiet whispers. In our hearts. Make sure you give yourself space to hear his voice. Second step. Journal those gifts and passions and life experiences we talked about earlier. Here are some prompts for your journal for this week. What are the things. I naturally Excel at. [00:35:00] Secondly, what activities or causes bring me the most joy and fulfillment. And thirdly, what difficult experiences have shaped me and how has God used them to grow me? Once you've written these down.

Look for connections between your gifts, your passions, and your life experiences. These connections often reveal clues about your calling. And step three.

Download my purpose discovery worksheet. To make this process easier. I've created a free resource for you. The purpose discovery worksheet. This worksheet will walk you through step-by-step questions. To help you uncover your God-given calling and create a purpose driven plan for your leadership or business. So you can download it in the link in the show notes.

It's completely free. And it's my gift to you for listening. So as we wrap up, here's the key. Did you begin to understand your purpose? Don't keep it to yourself. Take action. God doesn't [00:36:00] reveal our calling so we can sit on it. He really reveals it so we can step into it boldly and impact the world for his glory. So this week, I encourage you to take one small step of faith toward living out your purpose. Maybe it's having a conversation with someone you feel called to serve.

Maybe it's starting a new project. Or maybe it's simply saying no to something that's been distracting you from your purpose. Trust that God will guide you as you move forward. And if you'd like to share what you've discovered, I'd love to hear from you. Reach out to me on social media or through email. I read every message.

And it's always a blessing to hear how God is working in your life.

Final Encouragement and Wrap-Up

So as we wrap up this episode, I want to leave you with a word of encouragement. You were created for a purpose. God, didn't create you to just drift through life. Working hard, but feeling empty.
